This week in Women Studies we discussed women coaches. Ms. Barcomb spoke about the selection process that goes into selecting women coaches. This was something which I never gave much thought about, but as she spoke I realized that they're not many women coaches. Women and men sports are regarded differently in the sense that some people believe that they're essentially two different things and not just people playing a sport they love.
This also made me think about Mr. Robertson's talk about language and how both women and men are regarded differently based on the language we use to differentiate both genders. To women we describe them as emotional, controlling, or "not knowing what they're doing" when coaching the sport. While to men they describe it as passionate or strong.
I believe in order to have more female coaches we need to bring more awareness to it through social events and just overall awareness and realize that a passion for a sport is a passion for a sport and gender shouldn't play a role in it.
