I enjoyed Mr. Doggett's lecture a lot on Monday because of the addition information that I learned about Roe v Wade and abortion. Abortion is still a very controversial topic in today's society and it was important to me to learn more about the background and history of abortion that led to Roe v Wade. The different view points that government had about abortion was astonishing to me. Some of the points that were brought up were stunning to me because of the lack of morality. For example the man who was getting in trouble for selling condoms and other products to prevent couples from having kids was crazy to me. It just did not make sense to me how this was a crime and a punishable act for something that was not wrong in anyway.
I was also very fascinated about the cases that led up to Roe v Wade and what they were able to establish. Skinner v Oklahoma was able to solidify peoples right to equal protection and right to procreate. The other important case leading up to Roe v Wade was Griswold v Connecticut. It was interesting to me to hear about these prior cases that were able to help support peoples right to privacy. This idea is very important to abortion because it is a private decision for a women to decide what she does with her own body.
Abortion is a very important and hard decision for any women to make and I believe that they should be in full control. This is something that is very personal to the women and is not something that others should have the power to control. It is a textbook example of having the right to privacy, because there are many different reasons for a women to undergo an abortion that don't need to be shared with anyone else except for the women. It doesn't matter what the reason is for the women to get an abortion, but it should not be anyone else's business. It is already a very hard decision and there shouldn't be more burden put on the women than there already is. Abortion is something that I believe is necessary for all women to have the right to because they are in charge of their own bodies and can decide what is best for them.
