Hidden Figures

Hidden figures was one of the better movies that I have recently watched.  I was very interested in the movie at first because it was based off of true events that happened in the past at NASA.  Without the contributions by these women who knows where our technology and space knowledge could be today.  One of the things that I really liked about the story and the three women was there perseverance throughout their journey to reaching their goals.  There were so many people who doubted them and brought consistent negative energy.  It is amazing to me that these women were able to ignore the ones who didn't believe them and continued to go on with their lives.  During this time there were not many people on their side.  Being African-american and a women, you had all the odds stacked against you.  These three women believed in themselves when others didn't and that is something that is inspiring to me.  This movie was impactful to me because it was a perfect example of an individuals inner strength and perseverance in achieving something that others thought you couldn't.  This is a quality that I try to incorporate in my own self.  Having confidence in yourself and staying true to yourself is something that I admire in others and is what these amazing women showed to the world.

Ms. Kobus asked us a question during her lecture that was challenging for me to answer.  The question was "who is someone that you saw yourself as when you were a kid?".  I thought hard about this question but never could think of a time when I really envisioned myself as someone representing me in the entertainment that I was exposed to.  I think it is important to be your own self, and not to strive to be someone else that you see in the media.  Fortunately I was raised in a family and community where I was always supported with whatever I did.  There was never a time where I was told that I couldn't do something or that I wasn't supposed to be doing that because of my skin color or ethnicity.  This is something that these women didn't experience, which is the most inspiring thing to me considering what they were able to accomplish with everyone against them.
