Taking me back to a safe place the Barbie Movie reminded me of my Barbie in the Dreamhouse days. The pink, the outfits, the positivity, Ken, and so on. It allowed all of us to be kids one more time but of course with a twist. The different Barbies showing love and kindness was comforting. With such diversity in a movie, you see the true purpose of this doll. The difference in body type, race, profession, and style defined Barbie.
I loved the incorporation and appreciation of the true realities of being a woman. The fact that a childhood toy can have such an impact and later affect the relationship between mother and daughter is an underrated topic. This movie dug down but didn’t bombard the audience with too much emotional tribulation.
Although the “overly embarrassed” teen was kind of aggravating, it worked. It did a good job of depicting the struggles of motherhood and being a woman in general. Will Farrell being a “mother” was hilarious but also made me realize how men are genuinely in control of women without us knowing.
The movie’s concept was great, but the delivery sometimes bored and annoyed me. I completely support the initiative but the directors took too much time to explain certain jokes and allowed Ken on screen for too long. Although his character helped deliver the message, he should’ve remained Barbie’s supporter while also finding himself.
