My Shero: RBG

Ruth Bader Ginsburg was one of the first women on the Supreme Court. She changed many lives of women across the country.  She was first appointed to the Supreme Court in 1993. Before joining the Supreme Court the first case she argued was about the 14th Amendment. The 14th Amendment implies that there is “equal protection under the law“According to what I Learned from our in-class discussion, all laws affect people differently. Rules about gender and discrimination were very important to RBG. The first lawsuit she argued for was Moritz v. Commissioner of Internal Revenue. Even though we know Ruth Bader Ginsburg as a pioneer for women’s rights she won this first case advocating for a man and how he was discriminated against. Winning her first few cases for men gave her the opportunity for others to believe in her and her ability to advocate for those who can’t. When appointed to be on the Supreme Court Ruth Bader Ginsburg, was the leader of the liberal wing of the Supreme Court during this time. Women’s Rights were all over the place at this time. RBG was always one of the women among many men. She is very well known for defending abortion rights. Her impact on Roe v. Wade changed the lives of many women around the country. Her impact on Roe v. Wade was very significant. Many people do not know this but she was very skeptical about how this case was presented at first because she felt it focused on the wrong argument. Ruth Bader Ginsburg thought that the argument that was presented showed that restricting abortions was a “violation of a woman’s privacy” She then realized there was a bigger issue at hand and that was gender equality. She used her knowledge of the 14th Amendment to help the Supreme Court in deciding this case. Her fight for women’s equality and gender equality lives on today even after her passing in 2020. Although the Supreme Court changed the ruling of Roe v. Wade recently, the power Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg has still lives on especially during protests where women are repeating and showing her quotes about gender equality.  Justice Ginsburg is my shero. She knew as a woman she would have to work harder than the men just to have her opinions valued in a male-dominated space, which will forever be inspiring. She made changes and helped advocate for gender equality better than any other leader in this country in my opinion and her legacy will live on for lifetimes to come.
