Christiana Morgan

Christiana Morgan was a woman born into a family that had two different types of people. Her father, William Councilman was a gardener, who married a high-class woman named Isabella Coolidge Councilman. In her early childhood, she bounced between her summer home in Maine and a nice home in the city of Boston. Her upbringing had two different sides to it.  She enjoyed her summers in her rustic Maine summer house that her dad built. Her connection to her father was much stronger compared to her and her mother’s relationship. As she grew up into young adulthood she married William Morgan. Although attending many different private schools as a child because her parents could afford to give her an education, which was unlike many young girls she still attended a finishing school that taught her how to be a “proper wife and mother”. Christiana was a very intelligent young woman. Christiana growing up had many visions that combined many different ideas. In her life, she went on to meet a psychologist named Carl Jung, who was a student of one of the most famous and controversial psychoanalysts Sigmund  Freud.  Carl Jung became fascinated by her visions and he would analyze her visions and drawings. He asked her to keep a journal of all her visions. He felt her visions were very feminine and that she could be a “pioneer woman” for feminine psychology.  After four and a half years Carl Jung would give seminars on these journals which were known as the Vision Seminars.  After that, she met a man named Henry Murray, who was a Harvard psychologist at the time, and she encouraged him to meet Carl Jung. Henry Murray and Christian Morgan worked together to create the thematic apperception test. After that, she had someone build a tower for her on the marsh. This tower was a sanctuary for herself and her art. Her visions and private symbols were all around her garden and space. Her stained glass windows had her visions on them. Although her visions were different they still tied into similar themes because of the symbolism. In my opinion, the space she created for herself gave her the ability to be successful and write her journals for Harvard. I think her sanctuary gave her a clear and open mind.
