Working Wife or Working Woman

Feminism in the 20th Century compared to feminism now is a completely different movement. Especially for women trying to get an education or a job. The rise of this movement was caused by women who wanted to get the same equal opportunities as their husbands. To appear more feminine women would not attend much school because all they needed to learn was to be a mother and wife. According to the book The Feminine Mystique, women were told that “the most feminine women did not want a career or education.” If that statement right there doesn’t explain the women and what they thought during the 20th century then I don’t know what will. I believe that all people not just women are products of their environments and what the people around them project them to be. If other women did not want to get jobs or education because they wanted to appear feminine this was because other people around them were teaching them that the only way to be a “proper woman” was to be a stay-at-home mother and wife, leading women to believe that they should not go out of their way to break societies norms. Women were living how other men wanted them to live, women who wanted a degree could attend college with their husbands to get a degree called a PHT (putting husband through), this degree allowed women to learn how to help their male significant other get through college. I believe this change started because of women who wanted to protest and fight for their rights. This started the suffrage women, even though many women faced a lot of backlash they still fought for what they believed was right for them. This movement allowed women to finally and freely express what they wanted in their lives. This allowed women who wanted an education to teach themselves and other women that being smart is feminine because of the women who wanted change this started a revolution for all women. Because of this change, other women now started attending work and fighting for more equal rights.
