Womens March

President Trump took office on a Friday and Hundreds of thousands of women gathered in Washington on Saturday. They were ready to March to the White House. According to the Women's March website, their goal is to “bring together women and allies around shared values, experience, and culture to build a nation that works for all of us.” This March affects all generations of women around the country. The main goal was to continue in the right direction for all women to feel appreciated and important in this country. This March had many celebrities and feminists speak out for the same causes. According to the New York Times article Gloria Steinem who was a feminist during the 1960s and 70s gave advice to all the women at the march. She said “Make sure you introduce yourselves to each other and decide what we’re going to do tomorrow, and tomorrow, and tomorrow,” she said. “We’re never turning back!” To me, this advice means, that we should get to know the other women around us because we should continue to fight for the same rights. She wanted to keep this movement going for years to come. If we were all able to know each other on a personal level we would be able to drive this movement forward. Gloria Steinham was not alone during this movement Scarlet Johanson also said “President Trump, I did not vote for you, I want to be able to support you. But first I ask that you support me. Support my sister. Support my mother. Support my best friend and all of our girlfriends.” She said this statement because many women did not support Trump for the things he has said about and to women. To be a woman during a time when a conservative leader was in office attempting to take away rights due to his own beliefs instead of hearing women and their stories. As a woman in this country, I see how other women are able to come together to fight for a common cause is truly inspiring and gives other generations the opportunity to continue this fight for a nation that works for everyone.
