The Misuse of Media

In light of today's "Me Too" movement, I would like to begin by saying how brave Monica Lewinski was to stand up in front of an audience and she successfully voiced her story as well as a message for the women and girls of the world.  Monica started her talk by saying that she was "publically silent for a decade." She was forced to stay quiet and not reach out to anyone. Monica remained hopeless in her position because everything she said or even if she never opened her mouth, she was going to be shamed. However, not long ago, Lewinski had broken out of her muzzle to spread her message.

Lewinski's story starts with her romantic and sexual involvement with the former president of the United States of America, Bill Clinton. For two years, Bill and Monica had a secret affair. Monica now says she "fell in love with the wrong guy." Eventually, the secrecy of her relationship with Clinton quickly unraveled before her. Monica says she was "swept up into the eye of a political, legal and media maelstrom." As soon as her scandal was released onto the internet, all hell broke loose. Lewinski mentions that it was the first big news story that broke the internet. Form that point forward public shaming towards Monica was on an exponential growth curve. She was "humiliated worldwide."

The shame had eventually gotten deep inside Monica's head and the new invention did not advocate in her defense. The internet, the emails, and the chatrooms had lit up with Monica's name plastered everywhere. The media heightened the drama and drew the life out of Lewinski. In her talk, Monica is an advocate for a safe social media community to prevent further cyberbullying and media harassment of today's population. No one deserves to watch their lives unfold in front of them and not even have one grasp of control.

Cyberbullying and appropriate use of the internet is a greatly important topic that today's society needs to be aware of. The world has been gifted with advanced technology that is used every single day. Users have the ability to misuse and disrespect technology by causing virtual harm to others. Monica has made it a point that public humiliation can lead to serious contemplation of life. It is important that the world today withholds from cyberbullying and other shame driving acts on the internet. A juicy scandal in Cosmo on Snapchat is not worth a human being's life.
