The Politics Behind Our Rights

White Republican men fight to "save babies lives." This documentary portrays what is actually happening in the American government. That is white entitled men are voting on policies that do not impact them. Reversing Roe features five key women, two African Americans and hundreds of white men. The lack of diversity in itself shows the little strides we have made to achieve equality. The discrimination against women's right to choice is clear and malicious. But, what baffles me is the argument in which abortion is against some religions.
I understand the claim in which abortion is killing children, but I don't believe it is against catholicism. The minister from Skidmore College clearly explained that Christianity's main beliefs are centered around service and charity. The Bible can be interpreted in all different ways, thus allowing believers to condemn their own bigotry towards a women's choice. Even if this does go against some people's religion, I don't believe that should directly correlate with reversing the Roe decision. The Establishment Clause clearly enforces the separation of church and state. In my opinion, politicians seeking out a certain religious group to win an election and thus assigning new supreme court justices is against the constitution. I don't believe that politicians can argue this case purely based on their own religious beliefs. I do however understand that not all elected officials disagree with abortion just because of religion, but the majority do. We see this with our own Vice President, Mike Pence. There are clear and debatable arguments about why or why not abortion is okay, but religion should not be a part of creating laws. That being said I also don't believe politicians should be making decisions for millions of women who all have different reasons for having an abortion. Laws against abortion are infringing on women's rights all over America and it is not acceptable. Lastly, I want to address something that wasn't talked about in the documentary. That is, no woman intentionally kills their own kid. Pregnancy takes a toll on women and so do abortions. Women across the nation deserve the right to make their own decisions about their bodies based on their lives. Most abortions happen because women are raped or are too young to have a child. These decisions are protecting women and ensuring that when a child is brought into this life they can be cared for and loved properly.
