The debate, pro-life or pro-choice, is a debate about abortion, religion, and women's rights. Watching this documentary, Reversing Roe, I began to realize that the government shouldn't be involved in this issue or any issues like this. The security guard for an abortion clinic at the beginning of this film said something along the lines, "It is my opinion, whether or not you believe it doesn't matter, but I believe in the flag." The flag of the United States, the nation itself, stands for freedom of choice, religion, and expression. No one, not even the government, should not impose itself and its ideals on others. Regardless of the debate, it is important to understand that people should have the right to choose and make their own decisions. I do realize I favor pro-choice because it supports the foundation of this country. I believe in the idea of free choice regardless of the topic and when one choice gets revoked, then all other choices we have might be taken away.
The history behind Roe v Wade is extremely fascinating because pro-choice was originally a Republican issue and that's what they supported with Ronald Reagan, who was the governor of California, signed the therapeutic abortion act which supported abortions, but then they suddenly it changed. In Texas, especially, being a Republican, being pro-life could guarantee you a position in office. Furthermore, advocate for an issue is not a valid point because it does not provide any concrete proof or reason that can be agreed with unless you believe in that specific religion. So, a religious argument, in itself, is invalid because it lacks all logic and reason.
Now, the final point I will talk about is people killing these doctors because they are doing abortions. The people who were head of Operation: Rescue are interesting people because they are arguing that these doctors are mass murderers, but then they killed these doctors in cold blood makes them no better than these doctors, by their logic. So, shouldn't these people be on the same level as these doctors and be killed or go to jail as well? The people who are running the pro-life movements are using intimidation is effectively admitting that you are fundamentally wrong. The fact that these people have to use intimidation and force to get their way enforces the idea that they cannot use logic and reason to convey their argument and that it is solely based on emotion.
On a side note, since I have not talked about capitalism, politicians, most of them who are republicans, will agree with pro-life whether they believe it or not, grants them a lot of power and support and that is why these politicians will do it. Power is everything, and that is what these people are after.
