Roe V Wade

I thought that Mr. Doggett's speech was both insightful and intriguing. It was fascinating to learn about the history of abortions and and the evolution of the laws concerning it's place in society today. It was also interesting to talk about Pro-life vs Pro-choice and both sides to each argument. Before listening to this speech I had basically no prior knowledge about abortions in the 19th and 20th century. I learned about how some of the cases like Roe v Wade and Griswold vs Connecticut changed abortion in monumental ways. It is crazy to me that women had try and abort their babies in extremely dangerous ways for so long. It is clear to me that women should have the right to make their own decision concerning what they want to do about their pregnancy. We talked a little about regulations that have been made in some states. I agree with making a time frame of when the baby can be aborted, but I think that anything more is infringing the rights of women in America. What I found most interesting about Mr. Doggett's speech was when he talked about the zones of privacy. I thought that it was very clever how the lawyers pulled several amendments from the constitution together to show that women have the right to privacy concerning their decisions about contraception and abortion. I believe that that court case was critical in the advancement of abortion and contraception. One portion of Mr. Doggett's speech that also blew me away was when he mention that last year 650,000 abortions were conducted in America last year. He also said that this has gone done by 20% from the previous generation. I enjoyed Mr. Doggett's speech and I learned a lot about the history of abortions and contraception in America.
