Before listening to Mrs. Robisceck's speech about Jill Ker Conway I had no idea who she was. I learned about somebody who had a major role in the progression of women's status in a male dominated work force. She was the first female president at Smith College which came with an enormous amount of adversity that she had to persevere through. Jill Ker Conway had a great amount of pressure placed upon her by simply being the first female president of Smith College. If she did not succeed as president than many men would have been even more hesitant to give other women opportunities like this in the future. She exceeded expectations not only as a president of the college but after. She succeeded lots of "Firsts" by also being the only woman on the board of Nike. Conway had a successful career that opened doors and opportunities for many women to come.
I thought that Mrs. Robisceck's speech was very insightful and provided lots of historical information. I learned about how hard it was for women back then to have a successful career. It was nice to hear about a woman from that time period overcoming the tremendous adversity that they all faced. Mrs. Robisceck's speech was mainly focused about Conway's professional success. I would have liked to have learned some more about what Conway did outside of her professional career to advance the progression of women in the male-dominated work force. Obviously her success by itself allowed for more women to be successful, but I am curious if she did anything outside of working to help women's professional status during the time.
