Hidden Figures was a very inspirational and moving movie. The majority of movies about struggle concerning African-Americans that I have seen have been based in the slavery time period. However this movie showed how hard it was for African-American women in society generations after slavery had ended. It was women like the ones in Hidden Figures who were some of the first African American women to make a major impact in a male dominant work force. They had to deal with an immense amount of adversity, disrespect and doubt. The persrverance that these women showed throughout their careers was inspiring. It was also very disturbing to me how the majority of NASA could be so racist and sexist to these women. I would've thought that by this time period the majority of people would have been able to see good work when present, and see through whether the person was black or female. I thought that the movie was captivating and very interesting. I also learned a lot about the specific time period and the struggle that many people went through during it.
Ms. Kobus asked the class many tough questions that really got me thinking about how I was raised and what I was exposed to growing up. I had no idea about the story of these women and in general the struggle that african women went through when trying to gain respect in society. Growing up I was not exposed to sexism and racism so I really had no idea that it even existed. The movie showed how important these women were for the growth and expansion of women making an impact in the work force. These women are three of the most strong and perseverant women I have ever heard about, and it was an incredible story.
